Standing with Uganda's LGBTI+ Community

LGBTI Uganda is a beacon of hope and resilience for queer Ugandans facing persecution, discrimination, and violence. Founded on March 17, 2006, by Elvis Kiwanuka and a courageous group of activists, we established Uganda’s first LGBTQ+ shelter in Kampala—a sanctuary for those fleeing danger, rejection, or homelessness.

Rooted in compassion and fueled by unity, we are here to foster hope, create awareness, and build a supportive network for LGBTQ+ Ugandans.

Who We Are

We are a community of resilience, courage, and pride.

LGBTQ+ Uganda is a safe and inclusive space created to uplift and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and gender-diverse individuals in Uganda. In the face of adversity, we stand together as a voice for human dignity, equality, and love.

Our mission is to support and advocate for the rights, health, and well-being of LGBTQ+ people through community-based initiatives, education, advocacy, and solidarity.

What We Do

At LGBTQ+ Uganda, we are committed to creating a safer, stronger, and more inclusive community for sexual and gender minorities across the country. Despite the challenges we face, we continue to stand up, speak out, and support each other every day. Our work focuses on the following key areas:

Celebrating the strength, beauty, and resilience of Uganda’s LGBTQ+ community.
